Matt Winkler, Head Coach and NYC Beach Director:
Matt has been coaching indoor and beach volleyball for 27 years. He is one of the only two AVP Certified coaches on the East Coast, having worked with players of all levels: from 7 year olds up through AVP and FIVB professionals. Matt started NYC Beach Volleyball in 2008, as one of only 3 junior beach programs in the country.
His players have qualified and competed in the AVP National Championships, U18 European Championships, USAV National Beach Tour Championships, East and West Coast Championships, as well as VolleyAmerica and AVPAmerica Nationals.
His players have been recruited to play Division I and II beach volleyball in the NCAA, and he continues to promote and grow the game of beach volleyball in the Northeast.
As an indoor coach, Matt was the Head Coach for the Women’s National Team in Honduras, and led them to being one of only 8 teams invited to the NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2012. In the United States, he has worked with USA Volleyball High Performance and has had club teams qualify for the national championships. His players have been recruited to play Division I, II, and III in the NCAA, and he has led teams to the high school state championship tournament, as well.
Matt grew up on the beaches of Long Island, playing beach volleyball before he learned the indoor game. He went on to play at the University of Connecticut, before moving to Florida to train for beach volleyball year round. He has competed in countless tournaments as an Open Level player, and still enjoys playing when he can.
